Boys' Brigade // 1st Puchong Company
Boys' Brigade is a uniformed group that allows boys/girls and youths to have fun while learning discipline and building their character. They play games, learn crafts and educational-cum-life skills, go camping, have marching drills – all with a strong moral underpinning.
The founder of Boys' Brigade is Sir William Alexander Smith, who was born on October 27, 1854 in Pennyland, Scotland. Sir William Smith was an officer in the army and a Sunday School teacher.
The first Boys' Brigade was formed on October 4, 1883 for Sunday School children at Fee Church, and was known as the 1st Glasgow Company.
In designing the Brigade's motto and crest (emblem), Sir William Smith referred to the Bible verse Hebrews 6:19, from the King James Version: "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast...". Hence, the Boys' Brigade crest is an Anchor and the motto is “Sure and Steadfast”.
The objective of Boys' Brigade is to form Christian Character as reflected in virtues such as Obedience, Reverence, Discipline and Self-respect.
The 1st Puchong Boys' Brigade typically holds its weekly activities on Sunday afternoons from 12.30pm to 4pm. As of now, 1st Puchong Boys' Brigade includes girls in their Company, so girls and young ladies are welcome to be part of it too.
